Welcome to my campaign website!

I am honoured to be a candidate for Ward 17, Don Valley East, and hope that over the next few months I will earn your confidence and support.

On February 27 you will be going to the polls to elect your next Trustee. Having worked for several Trustees including the Vice-Chair of the Toronto District School Board I know first hand that the board is going through very challenging times and will continue to as Trustees are presented with a $55 Million budget shortfall, union negotiations, and another slate of Accommodation Reviews being announced in the Spring. Don Valley East will need someone with the experience, the full-time commitment, and a vision; Someone who will work hard to protect your programs, services, and facilities such as pools and schools from closure. I believe I am that someone.

I admit that I have some tough competition. However, having overcome many challenges in life including poverty, homelessness, bullying, and being pegged by many as “destined for failure”, I know from first hand experience the obstacles that our most vulnerable students and their families go through on a daily basis. I have prevailed and proved all those who have doubted my skills, resiliency, and strength to overcome anything and become successful in life. Additionally, I have worked hard to save pools from closing, to engage students in decision-making, to provided tools for parents to connect and communicate more efficiently with the TDSB, and I have worked in the background to shape and support policies that have been implemented in years previous.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible on the campaign trail or at events and hope to work hard over the next few months so that I can work even harder as your full-time Trustee over the next 2 years and beyond. Don Valley East deserves the best and so we should expect the best which is why I’m looking to raise expectations with regards to the quality of our education system and what the role of Trustee should be.

Yours in Service,
Tyler Johnson
